Liem will play against 16 international chess grandmasters and is also expected to take part in the Chinese chess event. After the tournament, Liem will attend the UK Open Chess Tournament in January 2012 and Aeroflot Open Chess in Russia later.
Competitors will engage in five events including the blitz and rapid chess, Chinese chess, bridge, and go chess.
Liem has been invited as a guest of honour to many international chess championships during the year. After Liem triumphed at the Aeroflot Chess Open in February, he took second place at the Casablanca and Dortmund tournaments and won the champion title at the 2011 Spice Cup in the US and bagged two gold medals at the 26th SEA Games.
Up to November, international chess grandmaster Le Quang Liem was placed third among Asian competitors and 25th in the world’s rankings.
