In late December 2023, Saigon Hi-tech Park (SHTP) Management Board reported that Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee is in the process of getting the investment certificate of John Cockerill.

The board is currently guiding the group to complete investment registration models based on the regulation of Law on Investment 2020 and preparing the dossier to register its investment projects in SHTP. It is also guiding the procedure to clarify the technology applied for the plant. At the same time, the managing board proposed John Cockerill complete the dossiers to submit the SHTP for getting licensed soon.

The representative of John Cockerill arrived in Ho Chi Minh City to study the investment opportunity for the first time in June 2023. After that, the investors worked with SHTP twice more to express their intention to invest in the city and started to complete the procedures.

According to the plan, the company’s investment project will specialise in providing power-saving solutions, and services to reevaluate the system to upgrade the efficiency of power plants, among others.

It is not the first time that John Cockerill has intended to invest in Vietnam. The group is also working with ministries and local authorities to reach an agreement to develop a hydrogen factory in the southern province of Tra Vinh, and a factory to produce activated carbon from coconut shells and other by-products of coconut trees in the southern province of Ben Tre.

In addition, the group is keen to explore new investment opportunities in Vietnam and diversify into the local market and the wider region.
