Though the names of the winners are confidentially kept, a source revealed two days ago that midfielder Huynh Quoc Anh of SHB Da Nang FC and goalkeeper Dang Thi Kieu Trinh will claim the tiles in men’s and women’s football respectively.
Quoc Anh is one of the five bright candidates leading the list, together with Trong Hoang of Song Lam Nghe An FC, Nguyen Minh Phuong of SHB Da Nang FC, Nguyen Van Quyet from T&T Hanoi, and Le Tan Tai from Khanh Hoa.
The left winger Quoc Anh, 28, was admitted by the Da Nang club in 2008 after he finished serving a three years’ probation and three-year suspension sentence for match fixing at the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.
Among seven internationals of Vietnam involving in the scandal, Quoc Anh is a unique player who managed to make a successful return to football. The others Van Quyen, Quoc Vuong, Van Truong, Bat Hieu, and Phuoc Vinh almost left the career or failed to impress on return.
Quoc Anh contributed to the success of SHB Da Nang in winning the top-tier V-League titles in 2009 and 2012 and the Vietnam Cup 2009.
Last year, Quoc Anh was admitted into the national senior team by coach Phan Thanh Hung.
The award-giving ceremony will be broadcast live on VTV6, BTV, and HTV The Thao (Sports).
