Expansion plans for Dung Quat economic zone

The Dung Quat Economic Zone in the central province of Quang Ngai is being expanded to 45,332 hectares from the current area of 10,300 hectares.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the expansion plan expected to be complete by 2025. According to a statement issued on January 20, the zone will be expanded another 24,280 hectares on land and 10,752 hectares towards the sea.

After completion, the Dung Quat Economic Zone will cover a vast area which will focus on an oil refinery, petrochemical plant and heavy industry such as steel, shipbuilding and other industries which can exploit the zone’s deep-water Port 2.

The economic Zone will cover more land towards the south and southeast area attached to the Dung Quat Port 2.

The traffic infrastructure in the economic zone will include the Da Nang – Quang Ngai expressway, a railway station and a 50 hectare warehouse.

The zone’s waterway system will comprise of the three ports of Dung Quat 1, Dung Quat 2 and another port on Ly Son Island.

Two helipads are also expected to be built within the zone area on the Ly Son Island and another in the Van Tuong new developed urban area in Binh Son District.
