CME Solar - Rolls out “zero-cost investment” model for rooftop solar projects

Since the Vietnamese government has designated solar power as a contributor to national energy security and sustainable development, CME Solar Investment JSC (CMES) has been one of the pioneering investors in solar projects in the country. Now CMES has a total generation capacity of over 141MW of solar power at the Renewable Energy Centre in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.

Additionally, CMES inaugurated the first rooftop solar project at the cargo terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport at the beginning of this year. With an annual output of 1.5 million kWh of electricity, the project can supply 40 per cent of the cargo terminal’s electricity demand, providing a 15 per cent saving on energy costs and reducing emissions by 1.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalents each year. The project has received applause from passengers passing through Tan Son Nhat as well as industry professionals for promoting green business.

CMES has installed dozens of MW of rooftop solar capacity in the market, with dozens of new projects still in the pipeline. Its projects are dotted across the nation, crowning the rooftops of domestic and foreign-invested companies.

CMES, backed by Vietnam-Oman Investment JSC (VOI), a sovereign fund established by the Oman Investment Authority and Vietnam’s State Capital Investment Corporation, is one of the leading commercial and industrial rooftop solar developers providing end-to-end solutions. Currently, the company has over 30 projects across Vietnam, supplying green and sustainable energy to clients through the “zero-cost investment” business model.

In October 2021, CMES signed a partnership with responsAbility, the sustainable investment house from Switzerland that targets companies with a positive social impact in delivering clean energy. And CMES is qualified for the financing on the programme - United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from responsAbility. This is testament to CMES’ dedication and capacity to effect discernible change while complying with safety, quality, environmental, and social requirements at every single project.

The funding from responsibility will allow CMES to expand a significant number of projects applying the newest technology to enhance the sustainable use of natural resources. Additionally, by upgrading these projects, CMES will also prevent nearly one million tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year.
