Boxers win two bronzes at Asian Games

Viet Nam won two more bronze medals in the women's boxing event at the ongoing Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.

Le Thi Bang lost to Chungneijang Mery Kom Hmangte of India 0-3 in the women's flyweight (48-51kg) semi-final to take the bronze medal.

In the women's lightweight (57-60kg) semi-final, Luu Thi Duyen quickly lost to Chinese player Yin Junhua 3-0.

Taekwondo martial artists also played unsuccessfully yesterday. Three players were ousted from the qualifying round. Nguyen Trong Cuong and Duong Thanh Tam were defeated by competitors from South Korea and Iran, respectively. Veteran Doan Thi Huong Giang also lost to Levita Ronna of Laos 1-3.

Nguyen Thanh Thao lost to Chinese Taipei's Huang Yun Wen 13-5 in the quarter-finals.

Vietnamese runner Vu Thi Huong secured a place in the women's 200m final yesterday.

Running in Heat 3, Huong, known as the sprinting queen of Southeast Asia, finished in third place and qualified for the final based on her time.

Apart from the second final in ASIAD, Huong, 28, also scored her season's best with a time of 23.57 seconds.

In the final race, to be held today, Huong will face rivals from Kazakhstan, Iran, Japan, China and Sri Lanka.

Japanese Chisato Fukushima is the defending champion, while Huong is the silver medallist.

Huong failed to protect her third-place position in the 100m race on Sunday, ranking fifth in the final.

After 11 days, Viet Nam won 32 medals to rank 20th out of 33 nations.
