State President Nguyen Minh Triet and leaders of 20 APEC member economies attended the closing session of the 18th APEC Summit in Japan on November 14, adopting the joint statement and three accompanied documents.
Earlier, the leaders attended the second retreat themed “Bogor Goals and APEC Future.” They agreed, for the first time, with orientations for building the APEC Community, including the deepened and broadened economic linkages, high growth quality, and safe economic environment.
Addressing the retreat, State President Triet confirmed that with its dynamics and strengths, APEC has gained remarkable progress in realizing Bogor goals, making the Asia-Pacific Region the world’s highest-growing one.
The State President stressed that regional mechanisms, including those within ASEAN and between the bloc and its partners, have accelerated the regional economic linkages.
He proposed the APEC member economies assist ASEAN build up the ASEAN Economic Community and its related plans and programs.
On the same day, the first high-level meeting of nine members of the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP), including Brunei, Chile, the US, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam, was hold.
At the meeting, State President Nguyen Minh Triet announced Vietnam’s decision to become a full member of TPP.
Leaders of other members welcomed Vietnam and Malaysia’s official participation in TPP negotiations.
* After the APEC Summit, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and the Vietnamese delegation visited the Japanese city of Nagoya.
