The Zalo.vn domain was suspended for operating social networks without a license |
VNNIC sent the announcement to iNET Software Co., Ltd. to contact VNG Corporation. Along with that, iNET will also carry out procedures to suspend the zalo.vn domain from November 11, according to the registered business process.
Previously, VNG was twice sanctioned for administrative violations by the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City for acts of setting up social networks without a licence.
However, VNG only paid fines and still provide the Zalo social network without permission. The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information and Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City have made a written request to VNNIC to suspend operation for the zalo.vn domain.
Along with that, the Ministry of Information and Communications is required to impose strict penalties but also gives Vietnamese businesses the opportunity to develop.
With competitive pressure, domestic technology enterprises are facing difficulties in dealing with foreign rivals. Therefore, the Ministry of Information and Communications has given Zalo some time to complete the procedures for applying for a license. Currently, Zalo has applied for a social network license to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Concerned that Zalo's owner is being influenced by a Chinese investor, Le Quang Tu Do, deputy director of the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information, said that according to VNG's report, the company has a foreign stake. This is completely consistent with the provisions of Vietnamese law and has been publicly announced by VNG in its financial statements.
