During 27 years in Vietnam, Unilever has pioneered long-term relationships with communities to improve the health of millions of Vietnamese people through disseminating education on personal hygiene, especially for women and children. This is one of the three important pillars of the Sustainable Development Strategy it has pursued for years.
Several practical programmes for children's development, especially in rural areas, have been implemented by Unilever Vietnam and the Ministry of Education & Training, benefiting millions of children throughout the country.
The “Green – Clean – Healthy Schools” initiative is part of a long-term strategic cooperation framework between Unilever Vietnam and the Ministry of Education & Training towards a vision to help 4.5 million primary school students nationwide in 2021-2025.

The collaboration and efforts from six brands – Lifebuoy, P/S, VIM, OMO, PureIt and Knorr – are the foundation to drive the programme.
Together aiming for one mission – the comprehensive development of Vietnamese children – Unilever Vietnam’s brands have invested in three core enablers to deploy the “Green – Clean – Healthy Schools” programme.
The first is school facilities upgrading, including clean toilets with VIM, hand washing areas with Lifebuoy, and ensuring clean drinking water with PureIt within school areas.
Next, the program will communicate and educate on nutrition with Knorr; help health and hygiene such as oral care with P/S; and aid environmental protection through planting trees and protecting forests with OMO.
Finally, with a desire to help equip students with knowledge through digital teaching and learning, the programme also focuses on building and implementing a digital curriculum with interactive content.
With the MoET’s direction and the cooperation of the six brands, Unilever Vietnam has built and deployed the online curriculum system “Green – Clean – Healthy Schools e-Learning,” with essential content on hygiene and healthy habits to give teachers and students a useful source of teaching and learning materials.
The online curriculum is designed in the form of fun and lively animations for children to remember and build a healthy lifestyle easily.
From 2012-2020, the programme built 445 safe playgrounds, upgraded 1,000 clean toilets, provided free dental check-ups for 617,000 students at 762 primary schools, and provided free hand soap and hygiene education to 7.2 million students across the country.
