One month ago Microsoft officially appointed a new country manager in Vietnam, Vu Minh Tri. Tri tells VIR’s Linh Mai how he will lead Microsoft Vietnam into the future.

How will Microsoft Vietnam  develop under your leadership?

Microsoft Vietnam still follows the general strategy of Microsoft Corporation, but we also evolve to be in step with the Vietnamese market. I believe that with the best efforts of our staff, we will bring the most useful products and technical solutions to Vietnamese.

During this time, Microsoft Vietnam will consolidate its partner channel to be stronger. Besides that, Microsoft will support government organisations and end users.

What benefits and difficulties do you think you will meet?

It can be said that whatever company you lead, whether it is a big or a small one, you will face certain difficulties and challenges. I know that I will meet new challenges, but I prepared. Microsoft Vietnam staff will stay together, try our best for the development of Microsoft in Vietnam. We will overcome every challenge to grow. I believe in my team.

You have been a general manager of many technology companies. How will this experience help you in your new role?

I am happy to join Microsoft. For me this is not only about pride, but also a chance to make my own mark on Microsoft. I want to devote my best to bringing Microsoft Vietnam to a new heights based on achievements we gained, contributing to the development of the IT industry in Vietnam through comprehensive software solutions as well as ensuring the benefits of users, businesses and IT community.

How do you feel about becoming the second Vietnamese country manager of Microsoft Vietnam?

The appointment of senior manager of Microsoft in each market depends on many factors and our recruitment is based on experience and capability. In fact, this is not the first time a Vietnamese has become country manager of Microsoft Vietnam. But we can see that, advantages of having a Vietnamese manager are deep knowledge of Vietnam’s market and culture.

Language is also an important factor in our market. However, I would like to assert that whatever nationality they belong to, senior managers of MSFT must meet the requirements of competence, capability and experience in that market.

Do you feel a great deal of pressure to deliver strong business results?

The top target of Microsoft in Vietnam is helping Vietnamese enjoy the benefits that technology can bring them in their work and lives. Microsoft’s effort in the last 15 years in Vietnam has been contributing to building a strong IT industry, attracting  foreign investment and promoting socio-economic development. With our effort, contribution and experience in this market in the last 15 years, I believe that Microsoft will continue to get the support from government, partners and customers for our top solutions and products.

During the last 15 years, Microsoft Vietnam always focused on supporting customers and partners, which have had  positive impacts on this country. How will Microsoft Vietnam continue this support and expand to other fields?

Our commitment is contributing to the development of IT industry through comprehensive software solution as well as ensuring benefits of users, businesses and IT community in Vietnam.

I am sure that we will continue to support the government and partners as we have done. We will consider and will expand to other fields in an appropriate time. I cannot share more at this time.

How will Microsoft serve its customers during this current economic recession in Vietnam?

Currently, the global economy is unstable and Vietnam is also affected by this slump. However, the core of success is professionalism, credibility and efficiency, beginning by investing in business activities.

Choosing the effective management and operation solutions and software offering “everytime and everywhere” productivity for workers is one of the critical factors which determine the competitive advantage of enterprises.

And this is also one of the advantages of Microsoft solutions – the “do more with less” solutions which help enterprises to optimise their performance on the basis of available IT resources. We also need to reconsider the investment on intellectual property.
