Korean food giant Lotte Group and subsidiary Lotteria Vietnam are supporting local community development by building a passion for the beautiful game among Vietnamese kids.

Lotteria is promoting physical fitness through its sponsorship of the football Challenge Cup

“We have had a number of causes to celebrate recently, including the opening of our 200th Lotteria outlet and a rising number of CSR activities. We will continue to pursue both business growth and social development,” said Lotteria Vietnam CEO Kang Hyung Hee.

Back in 2011, Lotte Group began financing Vietnamese football development through its sponsorship of a Vietnamese reality TV show for pint-sized footballers Cau Thu Ti Hon.

In another development, the Lotteria Challenge Cup officially kicked off in 2013, with the goal of growing it into a national event.

The Lotteria Challenge Cup 2014 was launched in Hanoi in mid-September after the signing of a deal between Lotteria Vietnam, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Football Federation.

According to Hee, the Lotteria Challenge Cup is an annual event and part of Cau Thu Ti Hon which is aimed at spurring the love of football among Vietnamese youths and to teach them honesty, discipline and team spirit towards becoming high-minded citizens in the future.

The tournament will be held in five locations this year, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and Vinh and Can Tho cities.

The tournament champion, apart from winning the cup, will have a chance to take part in the Super Cup 2014 in Korea, where they will be exposed to traditional Korean culture, take part in social activities, and match up against Korean teams.

Second and third place will receive cash bonuses of VND40 million ($1,900) and VND30 million ($1,430) as well as restaurant vouchers and medals.

The two best players in the tournament and the best coach will receive medals and cash awards of VND2 million ($96) each.

The hometown of the champion will have a mini stadium built by the organising board as a reward.

The company plans to set aside about $50,000 for the construction of mini-stadiuma for this year’s competition.

In 2012, Lotteria Vietnam was granted the Friendship Medal for its work in promoting friendship, cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the people of Vietnam and Korea.

Discussing the company’s development in coming years, CEO Hee said the launching of Lotte Center Hanoi on Vietnam’s National Day on September 2 marked a major milestone for Lotte Group’s development in Vietnam.

“Lotte will be pushing forward its franchising in the coming period with the goal of 500 Lotteria fast-food outlets throughout the country by 2018,” he added.
