The summit was organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Communication and the Authority of Information Security. It was attended by leading network security solution providers, including Opswat, Bshield, Viettel, Cloudflare, Sophos, and CMC.

According to figures released at the summit, in 2023, the world lost an estimated $8 trillion from cyberattacks (equivalent to nearly $21 billion per day). That number is expected to increase to $9.5 trillion by 2024. Every 11 seconds, an organisation globally is attacked by ransomware.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long said, “Ensuring information security requires synchronous coordination among organisations, businesses, and government agencies. This cooperation not only opens up opportunities to share information and experience, but also enhances our ability to respond quickly and effectively to threats.”

The deputy minister added that to be safe in the boom period of AI technology and emerging technologies, agencies and organisations need to be clearly aware of the situation and carry out comprehensive reviews and assessments to ensure information system security.

Leading security solution providers showcased their advanced technologies

According to Tran Dang Khoa, deputy head of the Authority of Information Security, AI has been mentioned a lot in Vietnam. As a dual-use technology, AI is used for both offensive and defensive purposes. The biggest threat is hackers using AI to launch more sophisticated attacks, create malware, and scan and detect vulnerabilities to bypass protection methods and attack information systems.

“When launching targeted attacks, hackers also use AI to create fake information that spreads on social networks. Although the authorities have implemented many solutions, the application of AI to create scam scenarios on social networks is very common, leading to more scams and property appropriation, and causing frustration in society," he shared.
