Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) shed today as investors locked in profits after 13 straight rising sessions.

Several speculative stocks, which strongly gained in previous sessions, largely fell today. Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), Tan Tao Investment Industry Corp. (ITA), Investment and Trading of Real Estate (ITC) and Hoang Quan Consulting-Trading-Service Real Estate Corp (HQC) sharply dropped by more than 4 per cent.

Blue-chips continued underperforming, with Vincom Corp. (VIC) and Vinamilk (VNM) shedding VND4,000 per share. FPT Corp. (FPT), Song Da Urban & Industrial Zone Investment and Development (SIS), PetroVietnam Drilling and Well (PVD) and Hoa Phat Group (HPG) lost 3-4 per cent.

Half the market ended lower, with 138 stocks off, 107 climbing and 55 unchanged. The benchmark VN-Index lost 2.41 points, or 0.51 per cent, to close at 466.99 points.

The poor market trend reflected skeptical sentiment among investors about a stable macroeconomics outlook, despite signs of easing interest rates and lower inflation.

Many low-price stocks, however, rose. Sacom Development and Investment Corp (SAM) was the most today active with 4.3 million shares traded, gaining 1.37 per cent. PetroVietnam Transportation Corp. (PVT) followed with 2.8 million units changing hands, up1.92 per cent.

Liquidity kept strong at 81 million shares worth VND1.3 trillion ($63.4 million), after it surpassed VND1 trillion ($48.78) for the first time in recent months yesterday.

Trading volume also jumped on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) to 94.75 million shares, worth VND1 trillion ($48.78 million), boosting total trading values on the two bourses to the highest level since 2011’s beginning.

Investors also locked profits on the bourse. Major stocks including Kim Long Securities (KLS), VnDirect Securities (VND), Bao Viet Securities (BVS) and PetroVietnam Northern Gas (PVG) largely hit the floor with big offering volumes.

Some cheap shares still rallied, led by IDJ International Financial Investment and Enterprise Development (IDJ), PetroVietnam Power Land (PVL) and Thai Hoa Vietnam Group (THV) seeing millions of shares traded. Those stocks added 1-2 per cent.

The benchmark HNX-Index was down 1.92 points or 2.42 per cent to 77.33 points.
