In Vietnam, the order is the largest ever for Hitachi and is the first order of Hitachi escalators.

The order of 63 units made in Japan is for 11 elevated stations in the elevated section of 17.5 kilometres within a total length of 19.7km of Metro Line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. The elevators and escalators are scheduled to be delivered in 2017.

Hitachi has been conducting elevators and escalators business in Vietnam since it entered a distributorship agreement with Thang Uy Trading Co., Ltd, in August 2009 and has provided 64 units of elevators in total mainly for small and middle scale of buildings.

Hitachi has been focusing on expanding elevators and escalators business in Southeast Asia including Vietnam, and has also established Hitachi Elevator (Myanmar) Co., Ltd. for sales and services of elevators and escalators in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in July 2015.

In Vietnam, the rapid increase in traffic volumes resulting from economic growth has become a serious issue, and public transportation is expected to contribute to resolving traffic congestion and protecting the environment.

Under this circumstance, the Vietnamese government has made plans for the construction of several urban railways in Ho Chi Minh City. Hereafter, Vietnam’s demand for elevators and escalators is expected to continue rising along with the construction of several urban railways.
