Germany trade increases by 30 per cent

The German Federal Statistical Office has predicted a strong rise in bilateral trade between Germany and Viet Nam this year.

Two-way trade value has risen more than 30 per cent year on year to over $3.8 billion by August this year, of which $2.5 billion came from Viet Nam's exports, said the office.

Councillor of Commerce Nguyen Minh Dung, at the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, said bilateral trade value was estimated at more than $5.7 billion this year, $1 billion more than last year's figure, with Viet Nam's exports to Germany expected to reach $3.7 billion.

Viet Nam-Cambodia trade fair opens

PHNOM PENH - A Viet Nam-Cambodia trade fair, themed "Friendship, Co-operation and Development" opened in Phnom Penh on Saturday.

The five-day event, which is part of the Vietnamese Defence Ministry's national trade promotion programme, features about 270 booths from 240 businesses, displaying household goods, pharmaceuticals, food and industrial products.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc said the fair offered a chance to introduce products and services made by Viet Nam's army-run enterprises to the Cambodians as well as international customers.

Trade fair to open in December

Hanoi - The fourth Conbuild Viet Nam 2010, an international trade fair, will be held at the Vietnam Exhibition Fair Centre here from December 1-4, the exhibition organiser said on Wednesday at a press conference on the exhibition.

The exhibition will house displays 200-plus companies from 20 countries and territories. They will showcase construction and building machinery, equipment, materials, vehicles, and technology and services.

US firm to manage Da Lat hotel

DA LAT - US hotel management company Starwood Hotels&Resorts Worldwide, Inc will sign an agreement today with the Sai Gon Invest Group's Robin-Hill Resort Limited Company to manage a Sheraton-branded resort in Da Lat, the Central Highland Province of Lam Dong.

To open in 2015, the 150-room Sheraton Da Lat Resort will be situated in a 45-acre pine valley and will have a heated indoor swimming pool among other things. It is expected to cost US$25 million.

It operates 19 hotels in the region, with 11 more under development in Bangkok, Koh Samui, Phuket, Angkor, HCM City, Cam Ranh, and Da Lat under the Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien, St Regis, Four Points by Sheraton, W, and the Luxury Collection brands.

CMC InfoSec join hands with ICSA

Hanoi - CMC Information Security Corporation (CMC InfoSec) officially became a member of the Union International Computer Security (ICSA) at the end of October.

CMC InfoSec was the first enterprise in Vietnam to join the alliance.

Trieu Tran Duc, General Director of CMC InforSec, said the ICSA participation would make production processes and product quality meet international standards.

China Unicom opens rep office

HCM City – The Hong Kong-based China Unicom opened its Vietnamese representative office in Ha Noi, its first local office in Southeast Asia, following the opening of its affiliate in Singapore last Thursday.

Through the expansion of its branch network, China Unicom will provide convenient telecommunication services and comprehensive services to customers in Vietnam.
