The new $300,000 operation in Hanoi will become the control tower for DHL’s newest range of overland freight services linking China and Asia with Vietnam as a vital hub.
Chief executive officer of DHL Global Forwarding in Africa and South Asia Pacific Amadou Diallo said: “Vietnam is a standout economy for DHL in South East Asia”.
Until now, DHL Global Forwarding has three offices in Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and northern Bac Ninh province.
CEO of DHL in South East Asia Sam Ang said: “DHL Global Forwarding’s new operation in Hanoi allows us to enhance our service offering from a location where many of our customers are based with convenient access to airport, seaport, nearby provinces and downtown.”
DHL began operations in Vietnam in 1988 and currently employees close to 1,000 staff to service over 7,000 customers.
According the latest report of DHL, Vietnam has 1,000 enterprises operating in logistics sector now comprising 70 per cent private enterprises, 18 per cent state-owned enterprises, 10 per cent enterprises unregistered and only two per cent foreign invested enterprises.
DHL Global Forwarding Vietnam country manager Clement Blanc said future plans would include launching an office in Vung Tau to support Vietnam’s developing oil and energy sector, in Danang to enable economic development in central Vietnam and in Haiphong to support shipping operations in the north.
DHL Global Forwarding would have the complete coverage needed to serve customers effectively across Vietnam with these new offices planned for the first half of 2012.
