PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) and Sembcorp Utilities Pte. Ltd. (SCU) of Singapore held an awards ceremony on August 28 for wind and metocean measurement services and geotechnical desktop study packages.
Data packages take centre stage for Vietnam-Singapore offshore renewable energy project

The packages are a critical component for the preparation and implementation of an offshore renewable energy import-export project between Vietnam and Singapore. Their purpose is to ensure the success of the project by providing accurate and comprehensive data on the natural and technical conditions of the project area.

The measurement and study work will include collecting data on wind speed, wind direction, and wind intensity at various heights, and metocean measurements such as sea waves, currents, and sea levels. The packages involve geological and geotechnical desktop studies, assessments of offshore wind power potential, and the identification of advanced technologies for developing offshore wind power. The measurement and study process will be conducted by leading domestic and international experts, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy and efficiency.

The successful execution of these packages will provide a foundational database for the engineering, construction, and operation of an offshore wind farm in Vietnam, with a capacity of 2.3GW. The packages will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and safety of the project and serve as an opportunity for PTSC and Sembcorp to apply the most advanced technologies, contributing to the sustainable development of the wind power industry in Vietnam.

The offshore renewable energy import-export project is part of the strategic cooperation between the two countries in clean energy. It was initiated in early 2023 when both parties signed a joint development agreement to collaborate on the investment and export of clean power to Singapore from offshore renewable energy sources in Vietnam.

The project is also a pilot initiative by the Vietnamese government in offshore wind power, contributing to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing national and regional energy security. The project is being implemented in cooperation between PTSC - a member of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, and SCU - a subsidiary of Sembcorp Group, both of which are leading companies in the energy and technical services sectors in Southeast Asia.
