The data strengthened expectations the government’s fight against inflation was showing dividends.

Since January to September, the CPI rose 16.63 per cent. If compared with the corresponding period last year, the index accelerated 22.42 per cent.

In September, the highest increase was seen at education products which rose 8.62 per cent against July. This could be a result of Vietnam starting a new school year this month.

Foodstuffs and transportation prices which had sharply increased in the previous month declined 0.28 per cent and 0.24 per cent, respectively.
