Cambodian PM to pay tribute to President Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen will lead a high-level delegation to Vietnam on September 26 to pay tribute to President Tran Dai Quang who passed away on September 21.

According to the Cambodian Foreign Ministry’s press release dated September 25, the Prime Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Affairs Samdech Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection Men Sam An, and a number of senior officials from the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Previously on September 21, the Cambodian PM sent a letter of condolence to his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, expressing great sadness on the passing of President Tran Dai Quang as “a huge loss of a leader who was devoted to promoting the well-being of the people of Vietnam and the relations of fraternal friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia. National Assembly Chairman Samdech Heng Samrin also extended his condolence to Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. On September 24, King Norodom Sihamoni cabled his message of sympathy to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

On September 26, President of the Cambodian Senate Say Chhum and National Assembly Chairman Samdech Heng Samrin will also pay tribute to the Vietnamese leader at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh.

President Tran Dai Quang passed away at 10:05am on September 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62 due to serious illness.

The respect-paying ceremony will start at 7am on September 26 at the National Funeral Hall on 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.

The memorial service will be held at 7:30am on September 27 at the National Funeral Hall. The burial ceremony will take place from 3:30pm on the same day in the President’s hometown in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.
