The south-central coastal province of Binh Dinh has given the nod to two important transport projects that will connect with the nearby coastal road.

The route will span approximately 17.3km, cross De Gi Port and pass through the communes of Cat Hanh, Cat Tai, Cat Minh, and Cat Khanh in Phu Cat district. Designed to meet Class III delta road standards, it will have a speed limit of 80km per hour.

The total investment for the road will be approximately $57.3 million, sourced from the state budget and other legitimate capital sources. It will require around 36 hectares of land, affecting approximately 66 households that will be fully relocated.

Two resettlement areas will be built in Cat Hanh and Cat Minh communes, with an estimated $20.3 million allocated for compensation, support, and resettlement. Binh Dinh People’s Committee has assigned the province's Traffic Project Management Board to oversee the necessary investment procedures and submit them for approval.

Deputy Chairman Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang has already approved the expansion of the interchange between Cat Tien-Diem Van coastal road and Nhon Hoi economic zone trunk road, covering almost 7 hectares. This aligns with the planned expansion of Quy Nhon city northward, the development plan for Phu Cat district until 2040, and the master plan for Cat Tien urban area development until 2035.

It also supports detailed urban development plans for the Cat Tien gateway urban area and Nhon Hoi economic zone.

The undertaking aims to build a level intersection with a three-lane cross-section and a 70-metre-diameter roundabout at a cost of over $5.96 million, with more than $3.6 million allocated for construction. Funding is expected to come from the state budget.

The Binh Dinh coastal road, also known as provincial road 639, is a key transport initiative spanning over 115km along the province’s coastline. It includes eight subprojects covering 99km, with the remaining 16km integrated into National Highway 1D, the total investment for the scheme exceeds $360 million. 50km of the 99km section has been completed since 2023.

The remaining segments are currently either under construction or scheduled to commence construction in early 2025, with completion expected by 2028.

The new road will create a crucial coastal transportation route, boosting socioeconomic development for the area, particularly in tourism and services, while improving the east-west connectivity by linking the north-south expressway with the coastal road.
