Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Robert Maersk Uggla, chairman of A.P. Moller Holding and Maersk, on September 23 to discuss expanding investment opportunities in Vietnam.

“A.P. Moller Holding sees vast potential in Vietnam, and we are eager to contribute further to its development,” Uggla said, acknowledging the government's efforts to improve the business climate and attract foreign investment.

He also praised Vietnam’s digital transformation and green transition efforts, which align with its commitments to sustainable development commitments

Uggla highlighted A.P. Moller Holding’s partnerships in Vietnam, including with Samsung and Hateco Group, and emphasised Maersk and A.P. Moller Terminals’ long-term vision for the country.

He expressed particular interest in exploring investments in deepwater container ports and logistics projects, areas where A.P. Moller Holding sees significant growth opportunities.

PM Chinh welcomed the group's continued engagement and pointed to the growing Vietnam-Denmark partnership, which has strengthened since its establishment in 2013. He noted the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, launched in November 2023, as a major step forward in fostering green and sustainable cooperation between the two nations.

The PM also recognised A.P. Moller and Maersk’s contributions to Vietnam’s maritime sector since the 1990s, citing the group’s capital resources, technological prowess, and management expertise as key drivers of economic growth. He applauded Maersk and A.P. Moller Terminals for their vision of developing green and smart ports, reinforcing Vietnam’s commitment to improving its transportation infrastructure and reducing logistics costs to boost competitiveness.

“Vietnam has over 3,200 km of coastline and is among the top 20 economies in international trade. Enhancing our logistics infrastructure is crucial to lowering costs and increasing the global competitiveness of our goods,” Chinh said, inviting A.P. Moller Holding to expand its investments in green ports, smart logistics systems, and sustainable shipping.

He encouraged A.P. Moller Holding to explore key infrastructure projects Vietnam is actively promoting, such as Lien Chieu Port in Da Nang, Can Gio International Port in Ho Chi Minh City, and ports across northern and central regions.

Chinh also urged the group to consider investments in digital transformation, green transition, and the circular economy, areas where Vietnam is seeking international expertise and financing.

A.P. Moller Holding, a Danish conglomerate with over 120 years of history, operates in more than 130 countries across multiple sectors, employing over 100,000 people.

Maersk, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller Holding, is the world’s largest provider of integrated logistics services, offering digital solutions to address global supply chain challenges.
