How will Vietnam SuperPort help realise the nation's net-zero commitments?

We are approaching our plan for net-zero systematically. For baseline emissions, Vietnam SuperPort is assessing its current emissions by mapping value chains and identifying hotspots. After that, we will move to become more efficient, upgrading equipment and facilities with advanced technologies, including AI, to improve operational efficiencies.

For customers, this leads to more cost-effective and streamlined logistics solutions, reducing logistics inefficiencies and enhancing overall performance.

With regard to renewables, SuperPort is reducing reliance on fossil fuels by installing renewable energy systems on-site and plans to replace its transportation fleet with electric vehicles by 2030.

SuperPort will offset its residual emissions by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates and carbon credits to support renewable energy projects.

For customers, this means working with a logistics provider that promotes net-zero practices, ensuring that any residual emissions are balanced by sustainable actions. Customers will be able to promote their sustainability efforts by collaborating with a partner committed to offsetting their carbon footprint, which creates a win-win situation.

In summary, this is the best time for Vietnamese companies to step up and make this world a better place for all of us.

How will pursuing net-zero commitments affect Vietnam SuperPort's logistics costs?

We will look at it from a comprehensive approach. Investment costs will increase. However, we do not intend to pass the cost down to the consumers or the suppliers and distributors.

But we will need to adjust certain costs and look at other marginal costs and areas. Government incentives and new government policies together with private-public partnership collaborations are areas to explore.

Injecting new technologies is key. We have new government technology agencies such as A*STAR from Singapore. We also have global private companies, for example, Google, that are also here with us. Large companies like this will be able to work with us to push the envelope further.

To manage risk, we can work out some areas collaboratively so that our investments will be safeguarded and most importantly, consumers will also be safeguarded along the way. And we believe that to take this first step, some level of risk will be involved. However, innovation shouldn’t be stifled.

By differentiating our business models, we can develop new efficiencies across the supply chain. More importantly, we will also see the region grow rapidly. We can see more business, not just from China, but from the rest of ASEAN as well. We are greatly encouraged by this and will work with our customers, partners, and relevant agencies that can help us along the way.

What is YCH Group's particular vision for Vietnam SuperPort?

Vietnam SuperPort will be a multimodal port. The aim is to build rail and dry port capabilities so it can operate by land, air, and sea, all packed together within 83 hectares. We have our bonded warehouse and storage spaces that can allow goods and services to be transported in and out of Vietnam. We also have dry container terminals which will allow cargo to be transported from China and the rest of ASEAN.

Our mission extends beyond building infrastructure. We're creating a sustainable, digitally driven ecosystem that will enhance critical logistics assets, drive sustainability with net-zero goals, incorporate cutting-edge digital innovation, and accelerate regional connectivity. In doing so, we are leveraging the 70-year experience of YCH Group as the largest home-grown logistics company in Singapore, to help companies and most importantly push regional connectivity and growth.

What will YCH Group do specifically to attract businesses to the SuperPort?

YCH Group has a proven track record in helping companies reduce inefficiency costs, from transportation time to distribution to vis-à-vis large-scale delivery that can enable sales of products to consumers via online platforms.

We also train logistics professionals in business development, business excellence, logistics, warehousing and so on. And we have a job rotation scheme as well. True experiential learning is not a theory-based approach. It’s about implementing job rotation schemes for experiential learning, and knowledge transfer through exposure to senior leadership

By implementing these talent development strategies, Vietnam SuperPort aims to significantly contribute to Vietnam's net-zero goals while enhancing the country's logistics capabilities and regional connectivity. This approach balances environmental responsibility with economic growth, positioning Vietnam as a leader in sustainable logistics in Southeast Asia.
