AIA Group has announced its strategic priorities for 2012 in Vietnam.

The group will focus on growing its world class agency force and developing new products and services in line with local customers’ savings and protection needs.

The announcement was made during the recent visit to Vietnam of Mark Tucker, AIA Group’s chief executive and president and Huynh Thanh Phong, AIA Group’s regional chief executive.

“As one of the fastest growing economies in the world, the outlook for Vietnam is very exciting and AIA remains very committed to continue to support Vietnam’s economic and financial growth,” said Tucker.

“As with other markets in Asia, there is a significant “protection gap” in Vietnam – the gap between the protection people need and the coverage they have.  We have the deep experience, the broad range of products and services as well as the financial strength to help the people of Vietnam bridge the gap,” he said.

According to the latest research by Swiss Re, the protection gap is estimated to be approximately $41 trillion for Asia and this gap is still growing due to the overall aging trend and people living longer.  The protection gap in Vietnam is estimated to be over $360 billion.

AIA launched the “Mind the Gap” campaign last year to raise awareness across the region about the need for adults to bridge their protection gap.

“The people of Vietnam are very hard working and always do their best to ensure a bright future for their families and themselves. AIA Vietnam will continue to ensure we focus on our customers and offer a broad and attractive range of products and service that meet the various protection and savings needs of the people of Vietnam,” said Phong.

AIA Vietnam officially started operations in Vietnam in February 2000. Over the last 11 years, AIA Vietnam has been focusing on laying a strong foundation for its sustainable growth through the training and development of its human resources with more than 400 staff and 14,000 agents.

Today, only 11 years after its inception, AIA Vietnam has grown to be a trusted brand in Vietnam. AIA Vietnam serves the holders of about 270,000 policies across the country.
