This morning, a press conference announcing the start of Swing for the Kids 2015 charity golf tournament, the aim of which is to raise funds for poor pupils and students with excellent marks and to host golfers from a social and professional diaspora, was held in Hanoi Hilton Garden Inn.
Scheduled for May 10, 2015, the 9th Swing for the Kids tournament will be held at King’s Island Golf Course in Son Tay District, about 36 kilometres from the centre of Hanoi.
At the press conference, two poor but excellent students, who are Le Van Tu from Hanoi Pedagogical University and Thao Seo Si from Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry, were given full scholarships of VND10 million ($463) each.
This year, Samsung becomes the new Diamond Sponsor while Vingroup JSC and Kinderworld Education Group are on board as the Platinum and Gold Sponsor respectively. BRG Group and Seabank participate as the tournament’s co-organisers with VIR and the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency.
The Swing for the Kids is also joined by media sponsors including VTV, VITV, Dan Tri, VnExpress, Vietnam Economic Times, Golf Vietnam Magazine and Golf and Life Magazine.
VIR’s editor-in-chief Nguyen Anh Tuan expressed gratitude to all sponsors and said the 9th tournament was a meaningful event because it was also to celebrate the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s 70th Anniversary in December this year.
“With the hope to give Swing for the Kids scholarships to more talented pupils and students across the country, the organising board hopes to receive supports from investors, businesses, and other generous donors,” he added.
Kicked-off in June 2007, the Swing for the Kids has been eagerly participated by about 1,000 golfers, including senior government officials, diplomats and businesspeople. The number of golfers is expected to be 144 this year.
During the last eight years, the tournament has given over 11,000 scholarships to poor but excellent pupils and students while also helping upgrade numerous training and education facilities in 38 cities and provinces nationwide.
