The District 5-based Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital has decided to open the sport and exercise medicine unit as its orthopedics department has received an increasing number of patients with injuries and medical conditions arising from their sporting activities, it said in a press release.
The sport medicine facility will thus operate as a division of the orthopedics department, which was founded in 2010, according to the hospital.
The new unit will deal with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise for both professional players and amateur practitioners.
Ankle sprain, groin pull, hamstring strain, shin splints, knee injury, and tennis elbow are the most common injuries for exercisers and sports players.
The admission-free opening ceremony will be held from 7:30 am to 11:30 am in Hall A on the 5th floor of the infirmary at 468 Nguyen Trai Street, District 5 on Saturday.
The event will be followed by a regular seminar where doctors will talk new treatments for degenerative joint disease and safe methods to lose weight.
Participants will also have free medical consulting and check-ups during the ceremony, and receive gifts such as manuals and DVDs on exercises to lose weight and treat degenerative joint disease.
