Vietnam continues leading other pepper exporters in the world, accounting for 40 – 50 percent of the global volume.

The Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade says Vietnam exported 15,000 tonnes of pepper and earned over $102 million in revenue in May, raising the total exports in five months to 62,000 tonnes, up 14.5 per cent in volume and 42.7 per cent in value compared to the same period last year.

The US, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were Vietnam’s three biggest markets that brought in $30 million worth of pepper.

Vietnam’s highest turnover growth was seen in India, the UAE, Italy, Singapore and Spain (over 100 per cent).

Indonesia was one of the six markets dropping to a record low level (below zero).

The UAE is a potential market using much more pepper in their food than other countries. In addition, its foreign trade policy is very open, simple and tax-free.

Despite these advantages, the Import-Export Department proposes Vietnamese businesses establish long-term cooperation with agents and distributors in the UAE to bring their products to consumers as fast as possible.
