Vietnam commits support for Samsung R&D centre

On October 11, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a working session with Choi Joo Ho, general director of Samsung Vietnam. Based on the close bilateral relations between the two countries, the prime minister appreciated how South Korean investors, especially Samsung, have maintained their leading position in Vietnam over the years.

The prime minister committed to support and create favourable conditions for foreign investors in general and South Korean investors in particular to expand their operations in Vietnam.

Regarding Samsung, Choi Joo Ho said that Samsung will make an effort to reach the growth target as well as other plans.

The representative of Samsung said that the support of the government, relevant authorities, and Bac Ninh People’s Committee created favourable conditions for Samsung Display Vietnam to expand its investment scale and increase its contributions to the state budget.

“The government assigned the MPI in collaboration with Hanoi People’s Committee to deal with Samsung’s proposal to develop an R&D centre and support the investor in completing the procedures to be able to implement the construction on time. If there are difficulties going beyond their mandates, the authorities will need to report to the prime minister's office for approval,” said the PM.

The prime minister asked Samsung to continue supporting local enterprises in training human resources and transfer technologies to supporting enterprises, especially small- and medium-sized ones so that they can join the group’s supply chain.
