VBSP Ky Son has delivered essential aid and heartfelt support to families in Nghe An province in the wake of devastating floods, reaffirming its mission of helping people in need.

The floods have caused severe damage to many households in Muong Xen commune in Vietnam’s north-central region.

In the face of this adversity, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) office in Ky Son has demonstrated a strong sense of social responsibility and solidarity with the community through timely, practical support efforts to help local people overcome challenges.

From July 22-24, the office organised post-flood recovery support activities at the Muong Xen commune People's Committee headquarters, directly assisting severely affected households.

Each day, 13 VBSP staff participated in cleaning up mud, repairing homes, and supporting daily living needs for residents. Approximately 10 households are expected to receive aid during this relief campaign.

At the height of the flooding, the unit provided emergency assistance to affected families in the commune who had been most heavily affected.

Each household received a box of instant noodles and 20 eggs, essential supplies to help them cope with immediate hardships.

Shortly after the floodwaters receded, the trade union allocated VND5 million ($200), raised from union members, to further support families in difficult circumstances. This effort exemplifies the spirit of mutual care and compassion shared by the staff and employees of the unit.

The homes of three VBSP employees were also flooded during the storm, and they received assistance to stabilise their living conditions and quickly returned to work, standing side by side with their colleagues to fulfill the unit’s mission of serving the community.

Talking to VIR, Ngo Minh Tu, director of the VBSP Ky Son office, said, “In a region like Ky Son with treacherous terrain and frequent natural disasters, people already live under harsh conditions and are especially vulnerable. We see it as not just our responsibility, but also our heartfelt mission to stand with the community during these difficult times.”

The practical and timely actions of the Ky Son VBSP office have left a strong impression on both local authorities and residents.

The unit has long been known not only as a ‘lifeline’ bringing preferential credit to poor and near-poor households and other policy beneficiaries, but also as a source of emotional support in times of hardship.

Nguyen Thi Ly, a resident of Cau Tam hamlet in Muong Xen commune, shared her experience. “We were truly worried. Every household here was heavily affected by the floods. Thankfully, VBSP staff arrived in time to help our family get through the worst of it. Although there are still many challenges ahead, we feel deeply comforted by their support.”

Over the years, the VBSP Ky Son office has effectively played its role as a key channel for delivering preferential credit to ethnic minority communities, remote areas, and disadvantaged regions, making a positive contribution to sustainable poverty reduction and new-style rural development in the area.

The unit has successfully implemented diverse lending programmes focused on job creation, students in hardship, social housing, and clean water and rural sanitation, ensuring the right beneficiaries receive timely support and that these programmes deliver tangible results.

The swift, heartfelt response during this challenging time stands as a testament to the VBSP Ky Son office’s unwavering dedication to public service, not only delivering life-changing policy loans, but also fostering humanity, solidarity, and compassion within the community.
