One of its latest initiatives is the construction of the SCG Outdoor Gym in Binh Duong. Last month, SCG and the authorities of Thuan An city officially inaugurated the multi-purpose outdoor gym for locals to improve their physical and spiritual health.

Piyapong Jriyasetapong, general director of SCG Vietnam said, “Improving public health is a key directive from the government and each province. Recognising this, SCG is proud to work with the province to construct an outdoor gym model, offering green space and a fresh atmosphere for local people. We believe that with this public space, people will be encouraged to develop a healthy lifestyle and the habit of doing exercise.”
Costing over $23,000, the SCG Outdoor Gym features outdoor sports kits, a volleyball and badminton court, games for kids, and space for outdoor teams. It also boasts green gardens as well as other amenities to ensure the aesthetic of the public landscape in the residential community.

The gym is expected to attract 10,000 people to participate in monthly activities and will be suitable for all age groups. Healthy living and outdoor activities are encouraged via the provision of a gym area with provided equipment and two multi-purpose playgrounds for children. In addition, nature lovers will be in their element here as most of the space is dedicated to verdant landscapes.
The SCG Outdoor Gym also comprises green trees and painted walls with messages of environmental protection. The space not only offers a fresh, green atmosphere to locals but also encourages them to conserve the environment.
SCG has utilised its premium-quality construction materials to build the outdoor gym, including SCG Smartwood, SCG Smartboard, concrete roofs, and StarCemt Cement. The gym is constructed by the Service and Solution Department of SCG Cement-Building Materials. Meanwhile, Think Playgrounds, a social enterprise with a mission of renovating public playgrounds in Vietnam, oversaw the design.
One local resident highly lauded SCG’s efforts to develop the outdoor gym, “After a long period of staying at home due to the pandemic, I feel excited to go out and exercise. SCG’s gym will be a great destination for both old and young. People can feel comfortable when using modern amenities at the outdoor gym to keep fit. The project is meaningful for us to maintain a healthy lifestyle for a better living.”

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Xuan, provincial commissioner of the Binh Duong Youth Union added, “Doctors have advised people to stay active for their health and well-being. The SCG Outdoor Gym is a great place for people to exercise and enjoy the fresh air. I feel very happy when contributing to decorating the outdoor gym. I am also grateful for SCG’s timely support to build the gym for locals.”
Besides the initiative to promote people’s health, SCG and its member companies have already carried out several efforts to assist Binh Duong’s citizens in overcoming the difficult years.
During the largest outbreak of COVID-19 in the southern localities, SCG and its member companies took immediate action to support vulnerable groups including frontline doctors, patients, and the wider community.
The support included medical equipment valued at more than $43,000, 1,500 SCGP field hospital beds, 16 hygienic bathrooms, and four mobile pressure chambers, among others.
SCG also focuses on supporting the young generation of Binh Duong to pursue education. SCG continues the Sharing the Dream scholarship for students across Vietnam, including Binh Duong.
After 14 years of implementation, the scholarship has empowered many of the province’s underprivileged students to pursue their education for a brighter future.
In addition, the member company Vina Kraft Paper Co., Ltd. contributed to the Spring with Disadvantaged Children programme and granted scholarships to students within the framework of the Offering Dreams to Together Overcome the Pandemic programme.
