“Children are our next generation, and it is our responsibility to make sure all the children born to be equally treated as all other children, to be happy and to be cared for,” said Maersk Line Vietnam.
With that motto, Maersk Line organised a “A Day at the Zoo” programme for children of Ho Chi Minh City’s Peony Orphanage on the occasion of International Children’s Day on June 1.
Two weeks before the event, Maersk Line corporate social responsibility (CSR) team members worked closely with the orphanage, the botanic zoo and KFC to make sure all the children of the orphanage would have a great day.
On June 1, Maersk Line staff took 40 Peony Orphanage children, ranging from four to seventeen years old, to the zoo for a memorable day.
Maersk Line Vietnam director Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich presented a fund to the Peony Orphanage founder and distributed gifts to the children.
“We hope you all enjoy the trip today and we wish you good health throughout the year, and please study hard to be successful in life. If you study well, you may work for Maersk Line in the future in Vietnam or elsewhere in the world,” said Bich.
The International Children Day event belongs to the series of CSR activities of the project “Narrowing the Gap” of Maersk Line throughout the year 2013. The next CSR activity of is the school renovation project at Binh Phuoc province in July. Through all CSR activities, Maersk Line hopes to raise the support inside and outside the country to contribute a hand to together improve well-being and change the life of the disadvantaged community.
A CSR member Pham Dang Khoa said: “They were born with physical disadvantages and they don’t have parents as other children, so they don’t have enough care as other children. We feel so happy seeing them enjoying the food and drinks in full smiles.”
