HNX shows some vital signs of life

Demand for shares rose at the session’s end on Wednesday slightly pushing up the Hanoi Stock Exchange.

The northern bourse’s benchmark HNX-Index gained 0.1 points or 0.15 per cent to 67.45 points, after falling continuously during the session.

Driving stocks Kim Long Securities (KLS) added some 1 per cent. Trading volume of KLS also climbed to 2.9 million shares in this session.

Other securities company shares also largely gained, among them Saigon-Hanoi Securities (SHS) shares jumped 5.26 per cent, Bao Viet Securities (BVS) up 3.62 per cent and PetroVietnam Securities Incorporated (PSI) up 1.59 per cent.

Several major stocks climbed also, with Vietnam Construction and Import-Export (VCG) rising 2.6 per cent and PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) adding 0.98 per cent.

Advancers rose to 104 stocks, while decliners reducing to 111. Some 176 stocks were unchanged on the northern bourse.

Liquidity, however, reduced to 20.8 million shares worth VND195.44 billion ($9.53 million) as put-through volume significantly shed.

On the main Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), a sudden rise in demand also prevented the market from a sharp fall. The VN-Index ended at 391.47 points, down 5.08 points or 1.28 per cent, after falling more than 7 points during the session.

Sacombank (STB) advanced 2.68 per cent to VND15,300, strongly active with 4.7 million units matched. Licogi 16 (LCG) rose 0.84 per cent, PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD) was up 0.76 per cent and FPT Corp. (FPT) added 1.87 per cent.

Blue-chips massively dipped, with Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) hitting the floor. Vincom Corp. (VIC) and Vietcombank (VCB) dropped.

Masan Group (MSN), Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) and PetroVietnam Fertilisers (PVF) shed 1-2 per cent.

Decliners remained high on the southern bourse with 162 stocks off and 54 hitting the floor. Some 64 stocks ended higher and 55 ended flat.

Matching volumes slightly gained, while put-through volume dropped to five million shares worth VND111.34 billion ($5.4 million). Total trading volumes fell back to 26.5 million shares worth VND443.25 billion ($21.6 million).
