Citi Vietnam gets Certificate of Merit from PM for digital banking innovation

Citi Vietnam has just been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vietnamese prime minister for its achievements in digital banking in Vietnam. It also recognised Citi’s role in supporting the development of the Vietnamese banking system and economic progress in the country.

“The certificate highlights our progress in online and mobile capabilities as well as our innovative solutions across digital banking to support clients. This achievement is a direct result of our long-term focus on digital which our team globally, regionally, and locally, has delivered in Asia and Vietnam,” said Natasha Ansell, Citi Vietnam country officer.

Citi pushed forward with a number of digital services aimed at improving the digital experiences for both corporate and individual clients in recent years. The bank’s “mobile-first” strategy that puts access and capabilities consumers need into the palms of their hands has helped Citi expand its leading role in digital banking in Vietnam.

In corporate banking, Citi’s award-winning electronic platform CitiDirect BE helped to ensure that institutional clients can continue to perform their core banking activities in a controlled, digital way during the challenging environment of COVID-19.

From 2019, Citi’s institutional clients in Vietnam could also use fingerprint or facial recognition to access Citi’s institutional banking platform on mobile. The bank has also recently launched CitiDirect Digital Onboarding (CDDO) in Vietnam, providing corporate clients with a digital channel for account opening and product implementation.

In consumer banking, Citi cardholders can request a doctor to visit their home via the app or conduct video chats with certified doctors around the clock via JioHealth.

Citi clients can digitally sign documents or alternatively, download, complete, scan, and upload documents, eliminating paper submission to Citi branches.

Citi cardholders can also use points to pay directly for transactions at Grab, Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, Agoda, Traveloka, CGV, Starbucks, McDonald's, DeliveryNow, and JioHealth. Citi is proud to be the only bank in Vietnam that offers such digital features to cardholders.

“During COVID-19, Citi Vietnam launched a series of digital measures to offer further assistance to retail and institutional customers. The bank’s priority is on supporting clients through this challenging period especially via digital. We are proud this progress was recognised and that Citi Vietnam received the prestigious Certificate from the prime minister on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the normalisation of relationship between Vietnam and the US,” said Ansell.

Citi was the first US financial institution licensed in Vietnam after the normalisation of relations between the two countries.
