Thuy Duong-Duc Binh Trading Joint Stock Company on Sunday broke ground for TDB Parkson Shopping Center at 18E, Cong Hoa street, Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Ha Van An, general director of Thuy Duong-Duc Binh Co., TDB Parkson is developed on an area of 8,800 square meters at a cost of VND500 billion ($25 million). The center comprises five floors of commercial space, one floor for cinema, and two floors for restaurants and bars.

The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2013 and then will be handed over to Parkson Group.

Speaking to the Daily at the groundbreaking ceremony, John Lam, deputy general director of Parkson Vietnam, said the cooperation with Thuy Duong-Duc Binh in operating TDB Parkson will take the total number of Parkson shopping centers in Ho Chi Minh City to six.

In addition, Parkson is running three other centers namely Parkson TD Plaza in Haiphong, Parkson Viet Tower and Parkson Landmark in Hanoi.

“Despite the persistent economic woes, we are confident that the economy will soon recover, so we will go on with our plan to develop two more Parkson shopping centres in Ho Chi Minh City from now to 2013,” said Lam.

Parkson Vietnam is under the umbrella of the Malaysia-based Lion Group established in 1930. Lion Group is active in the retail business through a system of more than 100 Parkson shopping centres in many countries such as Malaysia, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
