'Inno Vietnam – Japan Fast Track Pitch 2023', which aims to entice innovative startups from Japan and Southeast Asia to solve urgent problems that businesses and corporations face in Vietnam, was announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 3.

This is the first time the programme, a part of the 'ASEAN-Japan Co-Creation Fast Track Initiative' activity co-chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will be held in Vietnam.

At the ceremony, six large enterprises from Japan and Vietnam, including VinGroup, FPT, Kokyu Corporation, and Fujikin Danang Research, announced details of their 2023 challenges

“The initiative demonstrates how we leverage creativity and innovation to seek innovative solutions related to economics, business investment, and corporate governance. We hope to see the participation and support of ministries, localities, corporations, international organisations, and investment funds to create a playground full of related subjects,” said Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment.

“The six winning solutions are outstanding innovations that can help businesses optimise processes and create practical value for society. This scheme is a bridge between the business communities of the two countries and deepens bilateral ties," he added.

Japan supports innovation in Vietnam

Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi said that 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

"Over the past 50 years, Japanese businesses have expanded in Vietnam. The Japanese business association in Vietnam has about 2,000 member companies operating in a wide range of fields from electrical manufacturing, electronics, and automobiles, to retail, IT, and energy. Japan will commit to supporting innovation in Vietnam, especially in digital transformation and green development,” said Yasutoshi.

In Vietnam, the scheme is expected to become an annual event, attracting the participation of many innovative startups from Japan, Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
