The Hitachi-Cable Vietnam launched the first products from its factory on 10ha of the province’s Tan Truong Industrial Park after running trial.

The Japanese company received its licence in March 2008, with initial registered capital of $27 million, and expects to raise the number to $100 million for the expansion of its cable production plant, which will cater to the communications, electricity and health sectors.

Of which, the factory enables to produce 84.6 million FFC cable units a year as well as nearly 14 million units of Antenna for PCs.

Hideo Muneyasu – Hitachi Cable manager, said the company had its biggest customer in local market which is the Hanoi-based Global Data Service joint venture between Japan's NTT Communications and Vietnam's VNPT Group on providing data storage services.

Mai Duc Chon, head of Hai Duong Industrial Parks Management Authority, said the factory had kept its commitment to build and develop factory in Hai Duong province since 2008.

"After launching the first products, the company may consider their expansion plan in the near future. The project has run smoothly since Hitachi selected home for its first factory here," said Chon.

Hitachi has developed only one factory in Vietnam, compared with its four factories in Indonesia, five in Singapore and 21 in Thailand.

Hitachi has also expanded its elevator and escalator businesses since September of 2009. The company has been keen on Vietnam, with mega projects not just for the elevator and escalator business, but also for other businesses, such as nuclear factory and railway construction.

Hu Yoshida, Chief Technology Officer, Hitachi Data Systems said Vietnam was among potential market for technology products.

"We are very interested in Vietnam and the market here especially when we launch new technologies. There are two things in Vietnam that makes a good place for new technology. First, it is green field and the second thing is the intellectual capability here," said Yoshida.
