Tuan Chau Group recently kicked-off its $47.6 million Caye Sereno Halong project to make Tuan Chau island an international destination.

Situated on 3.3 hectares in the southwestern part of Tuan Chau Island, the project will be handled by the Tuan Chau Group and the Jen Capita, an affiliate of the Hong Kong-based Chiaphua Group with 18 luxury villas to have views onto Halong Bay.

A modern Latin American architectural style will blend in with the UNESCO world heritage site.  “The project is expected to be of international scale in all aspects with a large investment, high construction quality and unique architecture design,” the group’s statement said.

The project involves famous international designers such as Marcio Kogan, the designer of many sophisticated and modern buildings such as the Paraty House and the Cobogó House in Brazil, and the Bahia House in El Salvador. The landscaping will be done by the Campana Brothers who are famous for having made the Vermelha chair in the HSBC office and for work done at the Georges-Pompidou Centre of Arts and National Culture in Paris.

Chiaphua Group’s completed projects in Vietnam include Tower Saigon, Parkland Serviced Residences and Saigon Sports City, all located in Ho Chi Minh City. Development of Tuan Chau island started in 1997 and more than VND22 trillion ($1 billion) has been poured into the project by the investor.   About 40 per cent of the project has been completed.

A 20ha zone will have international schools and the investor expects that this facility will be able to accommodate around 20,000 students when construction is finished in 2016. The plan is to build a health care centre by 2015 and this could be enlarged to become a 5.1ha international hospital in 2020. There are also shopping centres and supermarkets.

Tuan Chau has become one of the biggest tourist resorts in northern Vietnam, with its 1,200ha offering a range of attractions.
