Vietnam opens a centre for digital transformation in the press

Vietnam has debuted a centre to support the press to effectively implement the digital transformation goals as stated in the Strategy on Digital Transformation of the Press by 2025.

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) made the announcement about the centre at the press conference held on the afternoon of June 5.

According to the MIC, on April 6 the prime minister issued Decision No. 348/QD-TTg approving the Strategy on digitial transformation of the press by 2025, creating an important premise for press agencies in digital transformation.

On May 8, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung signed Decision No. 781/QD-BTTTT promulgating the action plan to implement the strategy.

At the meeting, the MIC also provided the media with information about five-month performance and the key tasks in the months to come, and discussed issues of special concerns.

The MIC said that the ICT industry made revenue of VND276.77 trillion ($12.03 billion) in May, up 5 per cent on-month and down 2 per cent on-year.

The state budget contribution of the industry reached $328.69 million during the month, rising 1 per cent from a month earlier and down 9 per cent from the same month of last year. As a result, the industry’s total state budget contribution between January and May hit about $1.72 trillion.

The MIC’s main legal works included the issuance of Decision No.781/QD-BTTTT dated May 8 to implement the press digital transformation strategy; Decision No. 894/QD-BTTTT dated May 26 on the Vietnam-Laos agreement on cooperation in post and telecommunications; and Decision No.951/QD-BTTTT dated June 2, to evaluate and measure digital transformation of the press.

In the months to come, the MIC will focus its tasks on submitting a draft decree guiding the implementation of the amended Law of Radio Frequency; a draft decree amending Decree No.154/2013/ND-CP regulating the Centralised Information Technology Park; as well as the completion and submission of the draft strategy for development Vietnam's digital technology industry by 2025.
