TNK Vietnam, an affiliate of TNK-BP Group - the third largest oil company in Russia, will produce the first fuel from the offshore Lan Do natural gas field this year.

Hugh McIntosh, general director of TNK Vietnam, said gas production from Lan Do would help fulfil the company’s gas sales and purchase agreement obligations with the Vietnamese government.
“We expect to bring two billion cubic metres of gas annually,” he said.

Lan Do is one of two natural gas fields located in Block 06.1, 370km offshore southeast of southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.  Lan Do has two sub-sea wells in 185 metre water depth and will churn out both gas and condensate. Block 06.1 now produces about 4.7 billion cubic metres of gas annually.

McIntosh said the Lan Do project would be efficient because it was linked with the existing Lan Tay platform and it will use infrastructure system of Lan Tay to maximise cost efficiency. Production at the Lan Tay platform commenced in November 2002.

The Lan Do project will enter dewatering and testing stage in late September in order to achieve first gas production on schedule.

Licenced to operate in Vietnam in October 2011, TNK Vietnam  is part of TNK-BP Group, a 50/50 joint venture between BP of the UK and the Alfa Group/Access Industries/Renova consortium of Russia. TNK Vietnam entered Vietnam through the acquisition of BP’s upstream assets in October 2011.
