Telecom firms have been supporting Vietnam's COVID-19 fight and turn towards digital technology |
The COVID-19 relief package aims to support those who are working and studying from home due to the strict social distancing measures. The package will run over the next three months starting from August 5. Accordingly, it will double the internet speed for all users, grant another 50 per cent cellular data for free, as well as cut the expenses of the most popular data packages by half.
Customers can also enjoy free high-speed access to websites with COVID-19 information such as the portal of the Ministry of Health and the virus tracking and reporting app Bluezone. Telephone users in the social distancing areas will be automatically offered 50 minutes of same-network calls for free.
In addition, Viettel, VNPT, and Mobifone will also contribute to the COVID-19 vaccine fund by deducting VND5,000 (22 US cents) for each data package successfully registered/renewed.
Meanwhile, Viettel, VNPT, FPT, and CMC will join hands with the Ministry of Information and Communications to launch 17 new online platforms to support people in COVID-19 prevention with an estimated value of nearly VND2 trillion ($86.96 million).
Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications emphasised that, "The telecomunications industry has made great efforts to ensure the smooth flow of accurate and positive information. It also actively develops digital technology platforms and software to support the whole country in the fight against COVID-19. The package is another practical and concrete action by Vietnamese telecom businesses to support consumers during this tough time. The country will definitely overcome the pandemic to emerge in the new normal as a stronger digitalised society."
