Sunny side up for some stocks

Hoa Phat Group (HPG) gained 0.34 per cent and announced profits up to 58.45 per cent year-on-year for the first six months. FPT Corp. (FPT) also rose 1.94 per cent on its robust performance.

Sacombank (STB) and Vietinbank (CTG) also slightly advanced. Vincom Corp. (VIC) climbed 3.42 per cent to VND121,000.

Some shares posting good results like Southern Seed JSC (SSC), Hoang Long Group (HLG), Petro Capital Infrastructure Investment (PTL) strongly jumped.

But blue-chips Masan Group (MSN) and Vinamilk (VNM) still ended flat despite strong profits announced this morning. PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services (PVD) even significantly fell after posting a profit.

Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange’s (HoSE) VN-Index rose 0.03 points or 0.01 per cent to 409.39 points, after falling to nearly 407 points during the session.

Some 125 stocks declined on the southern bourse, while 85 climbed and 88 unchanged.

Liquidity was significantly improved to 19.65 million shares worth VND306.6 billion ($14.8 million), up 31.6 per cent and 21.7 per cent respectively. Put-through volume made up five million shares worth VND75 billion ($3.62 million).

Hoang Quan Consulting-Trading-Service Real Estate (HQC) suddenly outperformed the market today, with 1.2 million units changing hands. The stock closed shedding 3.36 per cent.

Volumes of Sacombank (STB) and Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corp. (REE) climbed to more than 700,000 units.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), some major stocks like Asia Commercial Bank, PetroVietnam Southern Gas (PGS), Ocean Hospitality and Service (OCH) rose.

Just 76 stocks gained, mainly small-cap stocks with strictly low trading volumes. Securities shares slightly shed less than 1 per cent or ended flat.

The HNX-Index closed at 69.91 points, down 0.32 points or 0.46 per cent. Volumes reduced further to 15.77 million shares worth VND166.8 billion ($8.1 million).
