Generic drugmaker STADA announced the acquisition of Nizoral Cream from Janssen Pharmaceutica NV, a Johnson & Johnson company, in Vietnam and other markets on August 19.

The move is a part of STADA's efforts to expand its consumer healthcare business in Asia-Pacific. Nizoral Cream features the active ingredient ketoconazole, which is used for the treatment of fungal skin infections.

Under the terms of the agreement, STADA has acquired the existing distribution and Nizoral Cream business in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand, as well as the trademark rights in Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

The transaction in an extension of a previous asset deal in Asia-Pacific. In 2018, STADA acquired the Nizoral brand in key European, Middle Eastern, and African (EMEA) markets.

“We are delighted to take this important step of expansion in Asia-Pacific. This partnership further strengthens STADA´s role as a partner of choice in consumer healthcare,” said STADA executive vice president for emerging markets Stephane Jacqmin.

STADA Arzneimittel AG is headquartered in Bad Vilbel, Germany. The company focuses on a three-pillar strategy consisting of consumer healthcare products, generics, and specialised pharma. Worldwide, STADA Arzneimittel AG sells its products in approximately 115 countries.

In the 2023 financial year, STADA achieved group sales of EUR3.74 billion ($4.15 billion) and reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of EUR802 million ($890 million). As of December 31, 2023, STADA employed 11,667 people worldwide.
