Siemens Group’s Siemens Power Transmission Division has a new chief executive officer.

Karlheinz Springer had been named chief executive officer (CEO) of the division.

Springer was head of the Instrumentation & Electrical business unit since 2005 before he took over the leadership of the Power Transmission Solutions business unit at the beginning of March 2012.

He brings with him a wealth of experience in strategy and sales and marketing, as well as his commercial expertise.

“In the Fossil Power Generation Division, Springer helped the Instrumentation & Electrical business unit achieve an excellent market position in power plant I&C systems and proved his skills as a manager,” said Michael Suess, member of the managing board of Siemens AG and CEO of the Siemens Energy Sector.

“His experience in project management and project execution will be of great help to him in his new position,” Suess said.

Udo Niehage, the former CEO of the Power Transmission Division, will be heading the Siemens Berlin Liaison Office and advocating new energy policies to politicians and members of various associations throughout industry.

Springer has been involved with Siemens power plant I&C systems since 1993, at first in a managerial position for project execution, in marketing and strategy, and then in sales and marketing, before taking over has head of the power plant I&C business in 2005.
