Major sponsor of Hanoi’s Green-Biz event last week, Siemens, exhibited its green product portfolio that included technologies that address challenges such as lighting, power supply, healthcare, water, and transportation.

Siemens Vietnam president and CEO Pham Thai Lai emphasised urban transport problems and solutions, particularly for densely populated cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

“Our complete mobility approach creates efficient solutions by interlinking different transportation systems. It is an effective, economic method of transporting both people and goods safely and with minimal harm to the environment. Also, our intelligent traffic management system can significantly help reduce congestion in major cities,” said Lai.

Siemens reported that 34 per cent of Vietnam’s population lives in cities and that is expected to soar to 45 per cent by 2020 and 60 per cent by 2030. Basically, more than one million Vietnamese migrate to cities every year.

Rising populations pose enormous challenges to urban growth and infrastructure while at the same time more people means more pollution. This requires innovative solutions in areas such as water supply, energy, and transportation.
