Following the acquisition of Invensys Rail, Siemens is continuing to expand its portfolio in the growth market of rail automation with two purchases in the fields of software – with Sky Eye Transportation Systems GmbH, and cargo – with SONA BLW Präzisionsschmiede GmbH.

“We’re strengthening our IT skills in crew and fleet management and complementing our cargo portfolio with retarder solutions,” said Sami Atiya, chief executive officer of Siemens Mobility and Logistics. “This means that Siemens can now cover every segment of rail automation for mass-transit and mainline services, as well as for freight and mining operators, and offer leading solutions and technologies for rail operators throughout the world.”

The acquisition of Sky Eye Transportation Systems GmbH strengthens Siemens’s IT expertise in planning and dispatch tasks, particularly in crew and fleet management.

The newly acquired business has about 20 employees and is located in

Braunschweig. It will be integrated into the Rail IT Segment of the Siemens Rail Automation Business Unit.

Through the planned acquisition of the marshaling technology business of SONA BLW Präzisionsschmiede GmbH, a Munich-based company, Siemens will complement its cargo portfolio and can offer hydraulic retarders and control systems from a single source in future.

SONA BLW Präzisionsschmiede GmbH's marshaling technology business unit is one of the most important manufacturers of retarder systems in Germany, Austriaand Switzerland. In the past, Siemens has fitted SONA BLW Präzisionsschmiede GmbH retarder systems with control units for comprehensive marshaling solutions.
