Siemens engineers local scientific academics

Last week the company’s industry automation section presented a package of automation equipment to southern Can Tho University, as part of Siemens’ strong commitment to further support the engineering education in Vietnam.

Automation packages will also be offered to three other big universities in Vietnam - Saigon Technology University, the Vietnam-German Centre of the Ho Chi Minh City Technical Education University and Nha Trang University. The total value of this sponsoring project by Siemens is $55,000, which will help hundreds of engineering students apply what they learn as theory into practice.

The new automation training room at Can Tho University will be set up on the basis of Siemens Totally Integrated Automation concept - the most advanced technology in the field nowadays. Siemens will provide training equipment that includes Siemens’ logic modules and SIMATIC S7-1200 controllers, human-machine interface panels and SCADA system for training courses of automation control and engineering.

Siemens Vietnam will also provide training to ensure a smooth operation and optimal utilisation of the equipment.

“With the equipment, we wish to support Can Tho University in fulfilling its important role as the biggest education, training and research centre in the Mekong Delta region, as well as to offer the students the best practical exposure to the world’s state-of-the-art technology, thus enabling them to acquire useful knowledge and skills for their future career development,” said Pham Thai Lai, president and CEO of Siemens Vietnam. “As a leader of technical innovation, Siemens will not only attract and retain the talent, but also be responsible for making contribution to Vietnam’s education by making use of its experience and advanced technologies.”

Since its official establishment in Vietnam in 1993, Siemens has been engaged in various channels of cooperation with Vietnamese universities and vocational institutions. For instance, in cooperation with German Academy Exchange Service (DAAD), Siemens had awarded a number of scholarships “Asia 21st Century” to the best and brightest Vietnamese students of Hanoi University of Technology. 

The company has also sponsored Siemens Automation Training Centre at Hanoi University of Technology and at Ho Chi Minh City Technical Education University. In April 2011, through the Higher Engineering Education Alliance Programme, Siemens provided an in-kind software grant with the commercial value of $71 million for five technological universities of Vietnam. In November 2012, Siemens sponsored demo equipment with the total value of $22,000 to help set up an European standardised training room at Hanoi University of Industry.
