400 high school students with grateful mind, excellent academic record and having economic difficulties in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Tay Ninh, Binh Thuan and Hanoi will receive a scholarship and school supplies for a new school year totaling more than VND3 million ($200) each. This is also a part of SCG’s celebration for its 100th anniversary this year.
Applicants are requested to submit self introduction letters and short essays explaining why they deserve to receive the scholarships to their local school governance boards or the school Youth Unions before May 30, 2013. The essays should address their gratefulness to parents and how they share family’s difficulties, as well as their strong ambition to pursue their educations, and great efforts to make their dreams come true.
“The youth are the driving forces, shaping the future of every country. SCG always pledges ourselves to support and offer them opportunities to obtain higher education. This year marks the 100th anniversary of SCG and 7th year of Sharing The Dream in Vietnam with more than 2,600 scholarships were awarded,” said Dhep Vongvanich, executive director of SCG in Vietnam. “Many of former recipients have successfully enrolled, graduated from universities and paved their way to the future confidently. We will also invite them to the award ceremony this year and hope that their life stories and learning experience can be the inspiration for younger generations to overcome all obstacles in life and be successful.”
This year, the scholarship award ceremony will be held in both Ho Chi Minh City for students in south eastern provinces and for Hanoi students in July. This is a good opportunities for the recipients to meet up, make new friends, learn from each other and warm up for the new school year.
Since 2007, “Sharing the Dream” has been established in Vietnam and has awarded 2,195 scholarships to encourage needy students to follow their dreams and become active contributors to society in the future.
With strong commitment to enhance quality of life in all communities where it operates, SCG has expanded the “Sharing the Dream” scholarship programme to other regional countries. Under this programme, more than 5,000 scholarships per year were granted to high school and university students in ASAEAN namely Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Laos.
