Saigon Co.op is the first Vietnamese retailer to receive the Fapra, and the award acknowledged the company’s ‘excellence in customer service.’ It was joined by Turkey’s Migros Ticaret A.S. and Hong Kong’s SaSA International Holding Limited – La Colline Shop.
The winners were announced at the sixteenth Asia-Pacific Retailer Convention and Exhibition in Istanbul from September 23-26.
This biennial award was given for the first time in 2009, and it recognises outstanding individuals, associations, and businesses in the retail field.
Five Fapra’s are bestowed every two years: the Most Innovative Retail Concept, Green Retailer, Best Marketing Campaign, Best Effort in Retail Employee Training, and Customer Service Excellence.
Other winning retailers included Turkey’s Dato, China’s Dashang Group, South Korea’s Lotte, Singapore’s Malmaison by The Hour Glass, Indonesia’s PT SARINAH, Taiwan’s Hanshin Department Stores, and Japan’s UNY Co.
Since opening in 1989, Saigon Co.op has won several awards from both domestic and international organisations. Last year the company was listed among Asia’s 500 leading retailers 2004-2012.
The company plans to open 100 supermarkets and 150 convenience stores nation-wide by 2015.
