Leading domestic pre-fabricated steel building supplier Steel Buildings & Equipment Industries Joint Stock Company (Seico) director Pham Duc Lam underlines the crucial role material suppliers hold to company development. He explained to VIR why the firm had chosen global flat steel manufacturer NS BlueScope as a supplier.

Pham Duc Lam initially worked for a state-owned structural steel manufacturer after he finished university in 1994. Nine years later, and well aware of the booming economy, Lam and some friends came together to found Seico JSC with a focus on prefabricated steel buildings.

Ten years later, Seico has deepened it foothold, employing 350 workers and operating a 3.5-hectare manufacturing facility in the northern province of Hai Duong with an annual production capacity of about 15,000 tonnes of steel structures and one million square metres of coated steel sheeting of various kinds. The company boasts a fairly stable customer pool, 80 per cent of which are foreign invested businesses.

Seico has experienced stable development during in the past two years despite the economy’s difficulties. In the first nine months of 2013, the company’s business returns surpassed last year’s results, ensuring jobs for the firm’s workforce.

“Seico from the very beginning has targeted high-end customers as the company’s strategic consumers, because apart from the financial wealth they possess, when happy with our services, they act as ideal ambassadors for our products,” said Lam.

Lam said since the company had chosen to service the high-end market segment, it had enforced the need to meet high quality specifications and quality of service.

Seico recently won the bid from animal feed maker Green Feed Vietnam at the Pho Noi A industrial park in northern province of Hung Yen. One of the factors for Seico’s successful bid was the acclaimed prestige of its material suppliers, particularly NS BlueScope, the supplier of roofing materials for the Green Feed manufacturing facility.

“The project developer was delighted with NS BlueScope’s quality products and services. So the presence of the group’s products in our tender documents contributed to our winning the package,” Lam said.

Seico used that success to reach a landmark decision in selecting NS BlueScope as their key supplier of galvalised and coated roofing and walling steel for Seico’s construction works.

Explaining why NS BlueScope was chosen, Lam said, “NS BlueScope is a joint venture between leading Australian and Japanese firms – BlueScope Steel Limited, Nippon Steel and the Sumitomo Corporation, which hold certified trademarks and products in countries across the globe. NS BlueScope products in Vietnam satisfy most technical and aesthetic standards, while proving durable materials combined with the added security of full warrantee services.

These products are an ideal fit for Seico’s long-standing customer base.”

“A good partner contributes to amplifying the success of bidding packages as well as bringing Seico fresh business opportunities since Vietnam is a developing country with tremendous opportunities for steel market development,” Lam claimed.

Lam hopes the tie-up with global material suppliers like NS BlueScope should help Seico constantly improve its service quality and enhance its prestige, paving the way for the company to move closer towards its long-term goal of sustainable development.
