Universal Robots (UR) will be showcasing innovative automation solutions at an affordable cost for picking, palletising, packaging, and placing at the 15th edition of Propak Vietnam 2022.

At Propak Vietnam 2022, the largest international trade event for the processing and packaging industries in Indochina, Universal Robots will be demonstrating the game-changing UR5e and UR10 collaborative robots (cobots), which are adaptable for a wide range of tasks and are safe to work alongside human staff to achieve higher productivity.

Visitors can witness live demonstrations of the UR5e and UR10 cobots in operation at booth FP18 from November 9 to 11 at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam country manager at Universal Robots Tuan Anh Nguyen said, "Automation with collaborative robots is more than just the deployment of robots for increased productivity and efficiency. It opens up new opportunities to businesses in Vietnam, enables faster payback, and further embraces the changing trends in the processing and packaging industry. It is a step forward in creating a world where people ascend to more interesting and safer tasks and where humans work with robots, not like robots."

For tasks that require repetitive picking, placing, or processing of delicate items, such as packaging, dispensing, glueing, and welding, the UR5e can be easily deployed to automate these processes with accuracy. This lightweight, adaptable, and flexible robotic arm with a payload of up to 5kg has a small working radius of 850mm – taking up relatively little space – and it can be safely placed alongside human workers.

UR5e can be used in most processing applications by customising the extensions to the requirements, with proven results of reducing assembly times, increasing production speed, and improving the quality of output.

Furthermore, UR is addressing growing concerns about manual palletising operations, which may put human workers under strain and overexertion. Among the top five reasons for manufacturing workplace injuries, 8 per cent are due to repetitive motions and 24 per cent are due to overexertion.

Made for heavier loads and more robust tasks such as repetitive heavy lifting, the UR10 cobot is designed with a load capacity of 10kg and a reach of 1,300mm to automate heavier tasks, making palletising operations simpler, faster, and more efficient.

UR will be debuting their recently launched UR20 at Propak Vietnam, the next generation UR cobot with a reach of 1,750mm and an unprecedented 20kg payload.

All UR cobots use patented technology that enables operators with no programming experience to quickly set up and operate them using intuitive, 3D visualisation. Users simply move the robot arm to desired waypoints or touch the arrow keys on an easy-to-use touchscreen tablet to set up a wide range of applications for varied industries, company sizes, and product types.

Eighty per cent of the thousands of UR cobots in operation around the world operate with no safety guards (after risk assessment) alongside human operators. The UR patented technology limits the forces when the robotic arm comes into contact with a person. UR cobots can also be programmed to operate in a reduced speed mode when a human enters the robot’s work area, and resume full speed when the person leaves. The safety system of UR cobots is approved and certified by TÜV (the German Technical Inspection Association).

The packaging industry is one of the fastest-growing markets in Vietnam. The paper packaging market alone was valued at $2.06 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $3.11 billion by 2027, according to Mordor Intelligence.

The rapidly rising market and demand for shorter production lead times are driving a surge in the adoption of advanced technologies and automated solutions to increase productivity and reduce fatigue and strain for employees.

Since introducing the world’s first commercially viable cobot in 2008, Universal Robots has developed a product portfolio including the UR3e, UR5e, UR10e, UR16e, and UR20, reflecting a range of reaches and payloads.

Each model is supported by a wide selection of end-effectors, software, accessories, and application kits in the UR+ ecosystem. The firm aims to empower change in the way work is done using its cutting-edge robotics platform.
