A group of 24 Italian companies are introducing their latest processing and packaging solutions and technologies for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries at ProPak & Printech Vietnam 2018 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre (SECC) on March 20-22.

Under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) has coordinated with the Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (UCIMA) and the Italian Manufacturers’ Association of Machinery for the Graphic, Converting and Paper Industry (ACIMGA) to lead a group of companies to participate in this event.

According to the Italian Trade Commission (ITC), later this year, another exhibition named Printech Vietnam 2018 will be held by ACIMGA, where seven Italian companies will introduce the latest technologies applied in printing, packaging, and labelling.

These companies are ACIGRAF, Gama International, Grafikontrol, OMET, REPROCHEM, Rossini, and Uteco Group.

According to Paolo Lemma, ITC’s director, most of the companies participating in ProPak & Printech 2018 have distributors, agencies, representative offices or branches in Vietnam.

Lemma told VIR that in addition to printing and packaging, Italian companies are also very interested in other fields, such as providing machinery for textiles and shoe making, marble production, and automatic agriculture sector.

The value of equipment and machinery exported from Italy to Vietnam was 24.6 million euro, up by 88 per cent from 2016, according to the Italian Trade Commission.

In 2017, Italy continued to affirm her position as one of the leading manufacturers in the packaging and printing industry.

In the first 11 months of 2017, the total export turnover of packaging and printing machinery for the Italian food, beverage, and tobacco sectors amounted to some EUR3.7 billion ($4.5 billion).

The Italian companies participating in this exhibition are outstanding players in the fields of processing, filling, capping, and primary and secondary packaging.

These include AGRIFLEX, AROL S.p.A., CFT Group, Concetti, DEGA S.p.A., Bertolaso, Imeta and many others.

In addition, together with UCIMA and ACIMGA, ITA’s stall also features the Italian Plastics and Rubber Processing Machinery and Molds Manufacturers’ Association (AMAPLAST), which will promote companies specialising in this field.

Italy is one of the major manufacturers of graphic, paper, and cardboard processing and converting machinery in the world.

Particularly, Italy is the world leader in manufacturing machinery for rotogravure and flexographic printing as well as machinery for paper and cardboard processing and converting. Over the past years, Italian manufacturers have not let themselves be overwhelmed by the frenetic rush to apply technological innovations.

Instead, Italian manufacturers have focused on simplifying production processes to renovate the sector with a view to achieving a solid equilibrium between quality and price. This orientation is essential for the success of “Made in Italy” products.

The technological potential and capabilities of the machinery have improved considerably, and the concrete results can be seen in the optimisation of production and in the reduction of time required to change tasks.

The Italian automatic packaging machinery sector is one of the most dynamic industries with the highest export propensity (over 80 per cent) and is comprised of 200-250 industrial companies, along with around 300 production units.

At present, more than 50 per cent of all automatic packaging machinery sold across the globe is made in Italy or Germany.
